An amazing aspect of aged care work is the opportunity to meet individuals from cultural backgrounds different from our own. It is like traveling to another country minus the turbulence and jetlag!
Aged care staff are extremely friendly and always ready to embrace cultural differences celebrating the unique things that both unite and differentiate us. Celebrations of Tết and Eid and Dashain are not uncommon to see throughout the year. Participating in these celebrations truly does feel like celebrating with loved ones, and indeed working in aged care is like discovering a second family. There is a very strong sense of community unlike anywhere else.
Residents would truly appreciate the effort that goes into remembering their cultures and really small gestures like these go a long way in making their day.
